A broad education in design, visual studies and art history has led to my career in glass design and book illustration.
Much of my work draws on experience of rural landscapes, conservation and local history. I also enjoy holding community workshops and tutoring. My work may be commissioned as single pieces of work or as part of broader projects. Items are available for sale (hanging panels for wall and window, bowls, coasters and occasional tables) - an online ordering facility will be available shortly.
Enquiries are always welcome to discuss ideas or requirements.
Currently in progress: work on a window for Long Preston Village Hall which includes the involvement of village residents in the making of the window, and builds on workshops and discussions held with the local Primary School, the Heritage Group, Village Hall Committee and open village meetings.
New courses added to the 'Courses' page - for 2012. including a new venue in Otley, West Yorkshire.
I will be exhibiting at a fellow artist's workshop for North Yorkshire Open Studios this year over the weekends of 9/10 and 16/17 June 2012. Also part of the opening exhibition in Harrogate.
I have registered for the juried exhibition 'Games' to be held at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea between July 9th and September 23rd 2012 to coincide with the year of the British Olympic Games. This exhibition is promoted and hosted by the Museum, Swansea School of Glass and the British Society of Master Glass Painters.
My own website will shortly be updated so that work may be ordered online. The artwork will include hanging panels for wall and window; bowls and coasters; and a series of occasional tables designed and built in collaboration with the fine furniture maker Mawdsley Williams.
My work combines the use of specially selected hand-made glass (sourced from UK wherever possible); the traditional art of painting with pigments and enamels; sand-blasting; and kiln-forming, each layer of process transforming the glass to create a finely crafted product.
Recent projects
2010 - 11 has seen a series of domestic commissions and a successful summer sale at the North Yorkshire Open Studios event. I am currently involved in making a stained glass window for the Village Hall in Long Preston in collaboration with village residents and the Heritage Group.
Over 2009 - 2010 I had a residency at Malham Tarn Field Centre as a part of a County wide project called 'Inspired by Heritage' funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Harrogate Borough Council and Chrysalis Arts Development.
I worked with Centre staff, visitors and local people to design and build stained glass panels focusing on the heritage of the Centre. The Field Centre and its beautiful setting proved to be a great source of inspiration for my work.

The window is a strong image from inside the listed building during the day and provides a welcome at night, at the head of the access track to the Centre.....
Another project was to provide a window for the entrance door to the newly refurbished library at Ermysted's Grammar School in Skipton. The brief was to replicate the school's coat of arms in the door panel, within a leaded surround. A detail is shown below:

I have a selection of work at Millbridge Gallery, Skipton, - specialising in photography and sculpture as well as glass; Obsidian Art gallery, Layby Farm, Stoke Mandeville, Bucks HP22 5XJ - well worth a visit to this lovely gallery which has a wide selection of contemporary and traditional artwork.
Christmas 2011 saw work in exhibitions in Skipton, Clitheroe, Lancashire and Richmond, North Yorkshire.
